What you need to know

The distinctive Asian style of gardening and botanic curation are on full display at Sydney's Chinese Garden of Friendship, with the mixture of architectural style, incorporation of water and exotic plant species all combining to make for an oasis in Sydney that feels a world away. Emanating an atmosphere of harmony typical of these kinds of gardens, hanging willow trees hang over koi-fish-filled ponds and bridges and pagodas intermingle amongst thick batches of greenery. It's a wonderful symbolic attraction that provides a bridge to a culture vastly different to Australia, and as a result brings with it a truly different atmosphere compared to some of Sydney's more typical attractions and a showcase of wonderful floral colours - particularly in springtime.

Additional insight into the gardens and their contents can be obtained via a free guided tour given by the garden's passionate volunteers, and visitors can even dress up in traditional Chinese cultural garments to help complete the escapist atmosphere! The Chinese Garden of Friendship is located at Sydney's Darling Harbour and is thus easily reachable via all the city's main forms of public transport including ferry, train, and bus. There are few more peaceful and tranquil places in Sydney to simply sit back, relax, perhaps read a book, or simply empty your mind.
